Hi. I am currently a high school sophomore and I am about to enter my junior year. For my foreign language, I took Vietnamese my freshman year, decided that I didn’t like it, then switched to Spanish 1 my sophomore year. I requested Spanish 3 for my junior year because I was planning to take Spanish 2 over the summer at a local community college. However, my counselor would not allow me to take Spanish 2 at the community college but they have already given me Spanish 3 for my junior year. I am planning on trying to self-study Spanish 2. I will not have any credits for this as I am not able to take a course. If I just have Spanish 1 and then Spanish 3 on my transcript, will it still count as 3 years of a language since I have taken up to Spanish 3? Thank you for the help.
How can your counselor control what you take at community college?
college classes arent the same as high school classes : in order to enroll into level2 of a language in college, you need to have level 1+2 at the high school. Take Spanish 2 over the summer through a virtual school like FLVS.
If you finish Spanish 3 successfully, that will be the 3rd year of spanish and that would count. I agree that a more structured course for Spanish 2 would be a better idea.
