I applied to chemical engineering at Berkeley this year and was reading somewhere that Berkeley has like the #2 chemical engineering program in the country behind MIT. So if Berkeley does admit by major, then I assume my chances will be less?

1) IMO, UC schools admit by major and thats y they ask you to indicate your major in the application. in fact, most unis besides LAC admit by major.

2) be confident, theres no point going into an elite school but learning something completely different from your interest. but since cal can be considered as ivy, all majors are equally hard to get in.

Berkeley admits by major within the college of engineering, but not for their L&S and other colleges (the majors are equally competitive in those).

I’m applying as a Chem E major too, maybe we’ll see each other at Berkeley. Anyway, I remember them saying that they admit by college except for EE and Mech E majors, since those programs are especially competitive. Fortunately for us, Chem E is in the college of chemistry which has slightly higher acceptance rates than the college of engineering. Good Luck!

Hey Ravis, how are your stats? I have a 2100 and 3.8 GPA UW… My SAT is alright, but could be higher for Chem E. The one thing working against me in my opinion is that I never took AP Chemistry

My stats aren’t too much different. 2270 SAT and about 3.85 UW GPA though I am out of state which could work against me.

In the college of engineering, yes.

Ravis, your SAT though is definitely superior and I think that will give you a good chance. Good luck to both of us!
