Does UCBerkeley look at senior mid-year (1st semester) reports?

During the admissions decision process: Only for a small sliver of students to whom they send a supplemental questionnaire, a request to answer some Qs plus provide midyear grades and one online recommendation. If they don’t contact you, you have no way to send them in and they won’t be used.

After you accept an offered admission: All admitted students have to send an official transcript to verify the information that you self-reported, as well as meet the conditions of your admissions offer which includes maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 UW GPA with no D or F grades in the senior year semesters.

You are not required to submit a mid-year report. If you had received a supplemental questionnaire, then you may elect to submit your grades.

To remain eligible for admission, you must 1) maintain your course schedule as indicated on your UC applicaiton, 2) maintain a 3.0 unweighted GPA each semester, and 3) not receive any D or F grades.

I got a pretty bad 1st semester grade. But I never got a supplemental questionnaire from the schools. so even if my counselor said he sent in the mid-year reports to all of my colleges… the UC’s will ignore the report that my counselor sent?

Yes. The UCs are HUGE; if you send something they didn’t ask you for, chances are they’ll never even see it.

there is no process to enter it into your admissions folder (or the electronic record of it). Anything that they don’t use as part of the admissions process is simply trashed.

My supplemental was due before I got my Fall grades. What’s the best way to update my file with them now that I have them?

you can go back to the myberkeleyapp site and enter them. no guarantee they will see them, if they have already processed your application completely, but decent chances they will see them. No other way, but they realized when they requested the supplemental that some people would not have grades yet, in which case they move ahead without them. Fill it out, it can’t hurt (unless your grades are awful).

thanks rider, they were really good, that’s why I asked!

excellent. hoping you will be on campus next year.

I log into the MyBerkeleyApp and all I get is:

Thank you for using myBerkeleyApp.
Your application has been received and is In Review
Decisions will be available the evening of 3/25/2010

Where do you go to update senior grades?
Thanks,
Sal

You can only update with senior grades IF you were selected by Cal for supplemental review and given an online set of additional questions on myberkeleyapp. That form with the extra questions has the space to self-enter grades and it has a link to give to one teacher/counselor for a recommendation.

If not one of the very few asked for this, you can’t submit senior grades (nor give recommendations).

I would suggest you fax in the grades to Berkeley if you received a Supplemental Questionnaire and don’t have the Fall grades before you had to turn it in. Call the admissions office during normal business hours and press 0 to listen to the really long recording. Somewhere in the middle is the fax number where you can send updates.

Thanks Ms. Sun, I faxed them, updated myberkeleyapp, and also sent official midyear reports. My mom says now they’re going to stamp my application “VERY ANNOYING” and put it in the reject pile, but my dad said when I got the supplemental it became like being down by one in the last minutes of a big game everyone thought you’d get trampled in, so what the heck? Go for it! =)

I got the leadership email and I’m doing that now. Does anyone know if they see the supplemental essays or the UC application essays or can I use some of that?

how do you know if you get a supplemental questionnaire?

on MyBerkeleyApp it says:

Thank you for using myBerkeleyApp.

you did not get the supplemental. You would see a request to fill out a questionnaire, with lots of instructions. The questionnaire is a web form with a number of questions that you answer with free form text. It has a section to self-report your senior year grades to date. I also provides you a special link that is to be given to one teacher or counselor, who will use that URL to provide a recommendation for you (but one that you cannot see).

Where do i check to see if i got a supplemental? email? or myberkeleyapp?

The official spot to check is myberkeleyapp - email is also sent but if that is lost you still will see the request very clearly on the applicant page.
