Or is it only Ivies that pay attention to things like that?

Private schools in general care more about it. UMD is very numbers-driven…GPA, SATs, courseload in high school, etc. If your whole family went to UMD, it’s not going to make that big of a difference if you don’t have the grades or SAT scores to get in.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter at all except if your family donates a ton or something

For example I know the niece of the man the Kim building is named for…She got in pretty easily.

I do remember the app asking about siblings at UMD though.

My opinion about legacies is that even when it comes to private schools, they matter a lot less than people think. Legacies matter if you are a big donor, extremely rich (i.e. potential to be a big donor), or are famous/“important” in some way (movie stars, sons/daughters of presidents/senators/etc.).

When it comes to state schools, how COULD it matter if a parent went to UMD? I’m willing to bet tons and tons of families have been in Maryland for at least a generation…there’s probably hoards of people whose whole families went to MD :P

There are a ton of UMDCP legacies that do not get in. I would not latch onto the thought is I am a legacy I have a better shot than a non-legacy.
