Does undergrad major matter? Or is it all about job experience?

Does it matter what one majors in - if it's between Business and Economics? (I like both subjects and wouldn't mind majoring in either of them).

I looked at State U's Business Program and their placement is pretty impressive (2008 - Accenture, Booz Allen, PWC, Deloitte, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs) but it's not ranked very highly (overall or for its Business program). State U won't be a whole lot cheaper than a LAC for me anyway, so by opting for Undergrad Business, do I risk looking unintellectual or something? Some posters have also distinguished between "Back Office" and "Front Office" operations (apparently State U's get recruited for Back Office Operations)...does all that matter?

Some of the LACs I'm looking at don't have placement statistics, but it seems as if a really good LAC like Pomona has similar placement to State U's Business...

Major doesn’t matter. When looking at job placement, be sure to look at WHAT jobs were hired for at schools. All of the companies you mention have a wide range of jobs and they recruit for different jobs at different schools. Morgan Stanley needs in house accountants, HR people and admin assistants. They don’t look to Wharton to fill those positions.

:( Not many are even putting out the placement data

Thanks
