I understand why so many people on CC are obsessed with ivies and top schools. I believe they do give an upper hand if ur not going to grad school. But I heard for law school specifically that it is ALL about gpa+LSAT. Wouldn't it make sense to go to a public school or a mediocre school like davis/irvine (which really isn't mediocre if u think about it.. its top 50 out of 3600 colleges in America) and get a high gpa compared to going to duke lets say and getting a 3.0-3.5? Law school admissions is even more focused on the LSAT... is undergrad prestige even a factor. I've heard from many of my friends at harvard, NYU, and columbia law that many of their peers went to state schools and received a very high gpa and LSAT.. so if you know your smart and can do well in a UC or state school, would it make sense to just go there?

i'd say not that much. however, kids at top schools will have better opportunities to do things like research or participate in interesting programs, etc. in addition, if you go to a state school or a mediocre school you really have to shine to get into top programs. if you are already at a top school though, you just have to be good but not the best.

but if you know your smart anyway and can do decently well at a school like ucla/ucsd/uc irvine... then what?

I heard even GPA doesn't compare to how much weight is given to LSAT. LSAT will pretty much make or break an applicant. I've seen people with 3.0-3.5 gpa's get into top 14 law schools, but they had 168+ LSATS

why did you make 2 threads?

"if you know your smart"..... hmmm.
