does university have a good biology/sci program?

So...
Does uchicago have a good science program, specifically biology/biological sciences?

Better than MIT,Caltech, harvard, hopkins, washington university st louis, columbia, stanford?

Biology is a big area with many subspecialties. I did read where Chicago was ranked #1 in Evolutionary Biology, if that is any help. Most rankings, however, are in reference to graduate schools.

I have been extremely pleased with all of my Biology classes so far.

The big thing UChicago has going for it is that the professors are both renowned in their research in addition to being passionate teachers. All of my teachers have seem to enjoy teaching us undergraduates and actually do research in the topics that they lecture us on. If you’re at all interested in going into research, you will not be disappointed by the classes; the AP5 sequence completely changed the way I think about Biology. Concerning course selection, it’s extremely easy to get into graduate level courses and there are many undergraduate courses to choose from, so it’s unlikely you’ll run out of interesting classes to take. Also, all of my Biology couses, excepting the intro sequence(s), have had less than 10 people in them, usually 5-6 (these are genetics/molecular genetics classes). This, combined with the openness of the professor’s to just stop in and talk or ask questions really makes for an amazing personal education.

Also, the fact that that UChicago has such strong Biology graduate programs means that if you are proactive about it, you’ll be able to find a position in a lab somewhere. The opportunities here just can’t be beat. I wouldn’t go so far as to say they couldn’t be matched by some of those other great institutions, but I can’t see any way that my education here could have been any better in preparing me for a future career in research.

Ok, enough gushing.

Yes.

I am pretty sure we have the only Genetics concentration of any reputable department.

I believe Chicago may be the only university where a medical school is part of the Biological Sciences Division. This also opens up some great research opportunities.
