Does having a degree in Sport Management help or hurt chance of getting in - all other things being equal?

Most law schools don’t care about your major. As long as you keep your GPA and LSAT in thier medians you should be fine

I would say Sports Management may hurt slightly. It is not viewed as being exceptionally rigorous and therefore your grades will not be viewed as well as other candidates with the same GPA. But it is only a slight hurt and probably won’t end up making a difference.

If you are aiming for a T14 LS, it will hurt a lot. If you would be quite happy going to a mid-level public LS in your home state, it won’t matter as much.

It won’t hurt because it’s “unusual.” It will hurt because it’s vocational.

Would Global Studies at UCLA hurt? (with a minor in public affairs)

If you’re taking only sports management courses, with no intensive research/writing/etc. courses, you might have an issue. But if sports management is merely a focus within a more general liberal arts education (including more demanding coursework), you could be okay.

I’m a theater major at Northwestern, and I’m pretty worried about that hurting my chances. I keep going back and forth between thinking admissions deans will think I’ll add “something special” and thinking they’ll think I’m applying because I saw Legally Blonde and loved it.

The latter isn’t true at all, and I think my coursework at NU is just fine (even great) for an aspiring law school student, as it’s not TOO heavily focused on theater. I’m just worried the phrase “theater major” might strike some funny chords.

^But wasn’t Elle a Fashion Design major ;)? Even still though, she managed to get a 4.0 at (was it?) UCLA and a 175 on her LSAT…

Oh dear, I’ve seen that movie waaaaaaay too many times :D!

…if so, you have a bad memory. She got a 179 on her LSAT.

I’m considering a major in Mathematics with minor in Political Science, or the other way around. Do you think this could work, if I kept a decent GPA?

jonri, hmmm, I must have confused the movie with the broadway musical cause in the musical she got a 175. The song where they announce her score is called “What you Want” from Act One.

Never seen the B’way show. I had the rather strange experience of having the composers perform two songs from the show at a legal event I attended. The songs were so horrific that I avoided the show. Why exactly they felt that pseudo-Irish music was appropriate is beyond me.

HAHAHAHAHA…I completely agree with you there! I don’t care for that song (“Ireland”) either…I think Paulette sings it. MTV had a special viewing of it 2 years ago so that’s where I saw it…plus I think there are still clips of the musical on Youtube…but I actually do like many of the other up tempo songs (I think they’re pretty funny :D!)

If you can remember, what was the other song you hated…just curious?

Captainwasabi - Math with political science is fine.
