just visited UPENN and loved it but the school just feels so huge (I was awestruck looking out into the freshman quad; it looked like a castle, something out of Hogwarts). My tour guide claimed that the many clubs, activities, sports, and housing options make it easy for students to branch out and develop new friendships and not feel lost in the midst of the big campus. I just need to hear that it feels smaller than it looks before making my decision to apply. any feedback would be most appreciated

I've never visited but I heard it feels just like Harvard but with a better social scene. Is this true?

Ahhh no offense, seriously. Don't take this personally. But some people ask the weirdest questions on this site. It's like, yes, Penn is a large school. And yes, there are many groups you can join to fit in. It's different for different people - some people feel like they fit right in at large schools. So if someone told you that yes it does feel smaller than it really is and your parents ask you why you decided to apply to Penn after all, you would tell them that someone on the fantastic site of Collegeconfidental said that it was fine.

And I apologize in advance for that, and maybe I'm being ridiculous or something, but whatever.

indeed, the apparent size of a campus is largely a matter of personal perception:

for example: 30 minutes ago, i walked from 30th street station to the ice rink at 32nd street, then down walnut, past the button, over to upper quad gate at 37th street.

now i personally don't consider that a long distance, but i just walked two or three times the length of many smaller campuses, and i like to walk... so...

in the end, it's not how big or small this campus feels to you, but if you can come here and feel like you're truly at home.

I am about to go socialize with people I've never met before :) Do not be intimated, only instigated to socialize on a better level

Also, tenebrous is a hilarious small asian. And if he can dispense good advise, then life is good :)

becareful,

your socialization with strangers is bought at the cost of my dues

ok, so back to the original topic...

when i visited penn, i was first drawn to the city before anything else. the fact that the campus behind me was incredibly JUMBO was something i hardly even noticed, i was so busy being amazed by hogwharton and imagining my life there.

the quad is pretty huge, tho - and i personally liked the way it was large and inviting. i felt like the more ppl that went there, the more personalities i could get to know, the more experiences ppl must have, the more fun it all brings.

lost at penn? probably. but im sure if you could find just one anchor, someone you knew before or something, then it would become much easier to branch out and connect with everything new.
just my 2 cents =)

attention India Airlines Flight 832

This is a HIJACKING

Watch out for the moving staircases and remember, the corridor on the third floor is OUT OF BOUNDS for all students.

I attend Hogwarts.
I'm Parvati Patil's boyfriend.

Any questions, feel free to pm me.

Who's her boyfriend?

I am... But I prefer not to divulge my name until JK Rowling releases the 7th book. I promised her I wouldn't spoil anything.

Oh, I see. I thought I was losing my memory or something.
