I did some volunteering in the summer of 2008 and started high school in the fall of that same year. Will I be able to mention it in my college application? Will they consider it?

It’s inconsequential. It will register for the 0.3 seconds the reader looks at that particular line on your app. Really. It’s kinda straw-grasping.

On top of the fact that about 85% of colleges don’t evaluate ANY volunteer or extracurricular activities. Only the very selective colleges care a whiff about them – and then, only extraordinary ones.

You can put it down, but like T26 said, colleges don’t care that much. I think EC’s only hurt you if you have none/next to none, and only help you if you have amazing EC’s that consume your entire life.

Wow, I did not know that. I thought colleges really look into these sort of stuff.

Voluntarism and ECs have inherent value for participants.

But the Emperor truly has no clothes.

Everyone does the typical stuff. But 85% of US colleges will admit/reject you solely on your transcript and test scores. The other 15% are the more selective ones who look for truly outstanding achievements to sort their generally very high academically achieving applicant pools.
