Does what part of country you are from help or hinder being accepted?

Does a good student (honors athlete) from New England have a better chance being accepted at Southern schools than schools in New England? Any ideas?

If you’re talking about top ranked schools like Vandy or Duke, then I don’t think being from NE helps. Top NE students use Duke and Vandy as back-ups in case they don’t get into ivies.

I think region helps when you’re from, say, North Dakota or Alaska, and schools don’t get many apps from those states.

Agree with above.

If you’re from new england it might help in the ED round at rice/vandy/emory/duke

We are from NJ same thing state that produces many highly qualified students. My daughter was waitlisted at Wellesley, Haverford, Dartmouth, denied brown but she was accepted at Rice (and loooves it).
