I go to a small private liberal arts college in eastern Pennsylvania and it really is of no significance. What I want to do I need the best degree possible and I’m trying my best to transfer to a better school but it would have to be during my junior year and I think the odds are slim to be honest. So I am really hoping to get in to a good graduate school to redeem my resume and I’m wondering if my Bachelors degree would really matter since if I had a masters or PH.d from another school? will people still look at my BA or only focus on the other 2? just wondering
Where your BA was from would make almost no difference. I have many professors at my top university that did their undergraduate at a public or an unknown private who went on to get PhD’s from the ivy leagues. Once you get a graduate degree people only really care about where you earned that, who your advisors were, and what your research entailed. Just focus on getting the best grades you possibly can right now, building relationships with professors for recommendations, improving your resume, and preparing for graduate exams when the time comes to apply and you’ll be in great shape. If you have a masters and a PhD from top ranked programs, no one is going to thumb their nose at a cum laude graduate from any undergraduate program, no matter how unknown.
What is it that you’re specifically trying to do to that would require the “best degree possible”? Just curious. You could PM me if you feel it would reveal too much information. In all likelihood whatever you’re trying to get into doesn’t require an ivy league degree, or even a degree from a T50 school.
In all honesty I’m not entirely sure but at this point I would like to work for the UN’s Economic Development sector.
Your response was very interesting though, thanks.
