Does Williams' 7:1 student-faculty ratio allow more intimacy?

Williams' 7:1 ratio, compared to other LAC's 9:1 average, would probably mean few dozens of more professors. Does this mean the faulty in Williams is more intimate with its students?

You wll find intimacy at every LAC

I think this faculty student ratio reflects the existence of the tutorial system. There were, I believe, 60 this year. And that is a very academically intimate situation. Check website for more info. Tutorials are not open to frosh.

A limited number of tutorials are open to freshmen. My freshman son took one this past fall and found it to be very intense, but extremely academically rewarding in the end.

oops. sorry. my son is frosh, too, but I had the wrong info.

Yes and No. As the previous posters have said, this difference doesn't really reflect the average class size (which are probably pretty close to exactly the same when you take out Tutorials at Williams). Rather, it reflects the existence of tutorials at Williams. Now, tutorials at Williams are about as intimate as classes come, and are prevalent enough that if you're interested in taking tutorials, you shouldn't have any problem finding one that interests you (and while some students don't get into tutorials--that's the downside of incredibly small classes), they're not known on campus for being especially hard to get into...most people do get into their first choice tutorials the first time they try.
