Does Writing a Book increases my chances?

My top choices are Georgetown, UPenn, Dartmouth (REALLY want to go there), and Cornell, but I do not think I could be accepted at these schools with my stats.

I have okay stats:

I am a white male from the north shore of chicago suburbs.
I am in a catholic jesuit highschool in wilmette, IL.
My Dad Graduated from Georgetown.
I have a GPA of 95 percent (I drastically improved 90 percent in freshman year and a 98 in junior year)
I am in the dumbach scholars honors program.
I have over 150 service hours.
I am on the sailing team and in the medical club.
I am a leader in my school's amnesty international program.
I started a fund raising art show that raises money for a school in Africa.
I started and planned a service trip to honduras.
I am, by senior year, goin to either complete 4 or 5 AP classes.
I am in my schools integrated science program.
I am in the highest math possible.
I participated in lead america's 10 day medical program.
I volunteer at northwestern memorial hospital in chicago.
I might take a six week bio course at a college next summer.
I have not yet taking my tests.
I might apply ED or EA to some schools.
Oh I think I can get some great teacher Recs also.

I am also in the process of publishing a book,
If I major in biology (premed) does the fact that I wrote a book increase my chances of admission into my top picks?

thats funny because a kid who graduated one year before me really really wanted to go to Dartmouth. He wrote a book and he got rejected from Dartmouth and the rest of the top 10 schools. I know he had strong grades and a very high ACT score. I think (IMO only) colleges sort of saw through it as a college ploy.

You should write a book because you feel you have something of value to share with others in a written form NOT because you want to get into college.

I would say yes(assuming it is not a college ploy). Writing a good book normally requires a great deal of writing skill and intelligence. Try to emphasize the book in an essay but not to the point where it seems like the book was simply to improve chances of admission.
Also, despite you view of your stats they seem pretty good(I'm not sure about the conversion between percent and gpa). Community involvement really helps.

I started writing this book a long time ago.
It is not to get into college.
I did not even put it on my stats before some one on another thread said it was good for college apps. I was just wondering if it could increase my chances.

If you get published, then that is definitely a big boost. It takes a lot of hard work, creativity, and dedication to get a book published. Those are all qualities that top colleges want to see.

However, I don't think it is nearly as valuable if you write a book that is not published. For all a college knows, a student's unpublished "book" is just a few ratty pieces of notebook paper. Publishing proves to the college that you put in all of the dedication and hard work they love to see.

I absolutely concur with Catfish: When I first read your question, what popped thru my mind was: But is it PUBLISHED.

If someone else has found it good enough to invest time money and resources into your work -- then it means something. If not...
