Does Yale Have an Open Campus?

Title basically says it all. My dad and I are thinking of taking a drive to New Haven this weekend, but really don't feel like taking a guided tour and such. Can we just walk around the main areas (without entering any buildings)? Or do we need to do the whole info session / tour deal?

You can walk around, go in the library but not any buildings. The campus is mostly on public streets. It is very pretty (maybe not this time of year)

You can access some buldings such as Freshman commons and many of the classrooms. The Colleges are gated but Old Campus is open. Yale’s tour is pretty good – very good salesmen chosen as tour guides!

Yale is very open, you could easily go into any academic buildings without anyone caring.

Entering residential colleges is a tad more sketchy, but I don’t think anyone will mind as long as you stay in the court yard/public areas.
