Does your GPA trend matter?

I'm just curious how much colleges look at your GPA trend.

My freshman year I was on a 4.0 scale because I wasn't allowed to take AP's and my GPA was a 3.857 out of 4.0
My sophomore year I was on a 5.0 scale because I took 1 AP class and my GPA was a 4.143 out of 4.143
My junior year I took 1 AP an my final GPA was a 3.857 out of 4.143

My cumulative GPA is weighted: 3.952 and unweighted: 3.86 or 3.93 (not really sure because my school only puts weighted so I tried to do it myself and this was my high and low.

they do care. you’ve been relatively stable.
As long as you don’t go down two letter grades or plus, you’ll be fine.

Hi, so you replied to my question- thanks! From what I know, colleges like to see an upward trend up of course it’s better to have high grades all throughout high school. It looks like you have a pretty consistent trend… you’ve probably gotten like 1 B per year? If so, that’s fine and I don’t think admissions will look down upon it. They actually care a lot about the rigor of your courses as well, so make sure that you’ve challenged yourself more each year. Good luck!

@Radbg74 and @vivendium Okay so I accidentally look at cumulative each year rather than full but the total GPA still is correct. The first post is updated for GPA’s… Looks like my sophomore year was the best but I’m hoping for this year to beat them all. I’m taking all classes at my local university an I hope to get A’s in all of them…

New perspective/thoughts?

Sorry for the mix up!

You don’t need to worry about that. You’re golden. Besides, it’s their problem now. You’ve done everything you were supposed to do. Sit back and chillax.

Wait - my unweighted GPA might be a 3.857… :0

bump]bump]bump

Still really good.

Ok… Sorry I just freak out when I think about my UW.

In your case, there is no real way for an upward trend, as your GPA has been consistently high. How can you be freaking out over a 3.86?

@PsychoDad10, I’m not freaking out about my total unweighted, it’s mainly my junior year unweighted, a 3.75 because I’ve always tried to stay about a 3.85. I just hope colleges look at total GPA rather than per year.

No one can be perfect, and when it comes down to it, I don’t think you’re going to get rejected from a school for one bad semester (and in you’re case, bad is all relative). Most students couldn’t even achieve a 3.75, so you really don’t need to obsess over it. At any rate, there’s nothing you can do other than keep on doing your best.
