My old school did, and so did the one before it. My current school is being silly with it since they think giving out awards to certain students would not help the confidence of the less achieveing students...! Awards actually inspired me to care about my grades back in 8th grade (I failed math! can you imagine that?!).

What are they called at your school? Do you have a "best in subject" or "best in course" type of awards?

Where can you list school awards in the common app?

They did have those awards in my HS. It’s general 2 per grade for the different math classes, different science classes, it’s crazier for seniors.

I could care less about awards, because I go to them to receive the one I get, and people with 5 talk **** and talk down to me like I’m not in there league. Who the **** helped you guys get these awards?

At the end of the year, starting last year (my HS’s inaugural year), they hand out awards. I think teachers choose a student from all of his or her classes as the “best”. And then they give rewards to all people above a 4.0. I received none but the ceremony is after school so at least they don’t waste everyone else’s time…

BUT I got Math II Student Of the Month last year! Free breakfast WOOHOO

Well there are various awards with names attached.

Example: “The Samuel Q. Burgermunchen Award, which is given to the member of Class III [sophomore class] who shows the most promise in athletics and also maintains exceptional grades” [not a real award]

there are lots of them. more are available for the older classes.

Our school has department awards that they give out at the end of senior year. Two per department. Nobody can get more than one (an unspoken rule).
