Doesn't matter which school you apply to

Hi guys-
I just got off the phone with the admissions department at Northwestern and I just wanted to get your thoughts on what I heard. I am a future medill applicant, but the CR score on my SAT is the lowest of any section (650) , but I’m still around a 2200. I called to ask if that would be thought of as a negative especially because I’m applying to the journalism school, and they said it does not matter if I were applying to medill or anywhere else. When they admit someone they admit them to the university, and then they put them in the school that they selected to go into. So the actual school that you apply to, (minus the essay where you have to talk specifically about it) shouldn’t really have any impact on the decision. Is this true? They said it is because many people transfer to another school within the university, and it wouldn’t be fair to judge them specifically on one school

I have heard that there’s a 100 student cap for theater and RTVF, but I’m not sure if its true. I don’t know enough to say definitively on that or at all on anything else though.

They look at your application based on the school you applied to to see if you are a good fit for that specific school, while at the same time seeing if you are a good fit for the university.

To add on to my post, I think it will be beneficial to you to apply to the school you would want to study in; the true enthusiasm apparent in your essays would give you more of an advantage than any little game-the-system play that may or may not be factual, in my opinion.
