Writing was really harsh on that test; brought me down quite a bit too.

wow 78! damn

When are you guys taking it for real?

I'm not planning on taking the SAT at all. I'm taking the ACT again this spring just because I didn't do the writing part the first time, but I really doubt I would do better on the SAT than I did on the ACT this past fall. Besides, the ACT is given at my school, but the SAT is only given in Duluth, an hour away from where I live.

I just took the December ACT....still waiting scores on that. Had a 29 from February of sophomore year. I'm taking the SAT though in April...wanna see how that would compare to my ACT.

ya... Im taking sat on January 27th ish
and then sat again in march and then act for the first time in april

Sorry this is off topic, but I am in need of some outside input. My boyfriend flat told me that my dad has set me up for failure because he has pushed ND on me since I was a kid. Because ND is the only college I have really ever been exposed to my expectations have been set at "impossible standards" that no other school will be able to meet. So if I dont get in he is afraid I won't have a back up plan and be forced to settle for a school I don't like. I told him I wasn't going to settle for IU like most kids from our school, honestly I refuse to go to IU. But he got me thinking that maybe my dad has messed me up, anything other than ND will be a failure to us.
~This might sound stupid but the only time I remember spending time with my dad was when we would sit down and watch ND football together. It was the only father-daughter time we had and I loved it, we still watch games together! ~
Anyways my question for you guys is, does having ND as the first college you love screw over all the others? Is there another school that comes close? Oh I should mention that I plan to major in political science or international relations. I'd appreciate any feedback. THANKS!

Georgetown, George Washington, University of Washington, Macalester, University of San Diego, Tufts, American, Boston University, UCSD, etc.

And you also have the usual super "prestige" pack with Columbia, University of Chicago, etc. The majority of Ivy League schools excel in international relations. There are many more excellent universities... but you already know those. (Stanford, for example.)

You need a solid back-up plan.

hahah.... ya isabella i tend to put ND on a pedastool that is sometimes to high...

but that doesnt really matter

Your just like me though, my family has grown up nd fans even though none of us have been smart enought to atten (gonna try to change that).... but sometimes you have to be realistic and smart and think about whats going to happen if you dont get into this dream school ( ND in our case )

are you a junior or a senior?

Theres like 4 other schools that I would be happy to go to if i didnt get into notre dame... of course i will be distrought and angry and sad but you have to be realistic

I think there is one school taht is somewhat similiar to Notre Dame, and probly is the closest and that is Boston College

I think your Dad just wants whats best for you, and thats Notre Dame.....

But Here are my other schools, and im prob the bigggest notre dame fanatic on this board, so

Boston College
University of San Diego
Michigan (Cringe)
University of Southern California ( Cringe twice)

I know those last two may be hard to swallow.. cuz they are for me....but I tihnk you just have to open your eyes to other options and not just settle for IU - is that indiana or illinois or iowa or -

does having ND as the first college you love screw over all the others?

Yes it does because I always am comparing school B to notre dame, and honestly it doesnt match up.... but i think you have to realize that nothing matches up to ND so you have to look at Option 2...... .. So If i were you Id look at BC... georgetown.....
and the rest on MY list

IU as in Indiana, I've been there and the only good thing they have are frat parties, trust me. I am a junior and I do live about 20 minutes from ND. But I also think of myself as fanatic, I skipped most of my boyfriends football games to go to ND pep rallies, and I don't feel bad. He of course got mad, but his dad is a ND grad and his uncle is a prof there so he could get if he wanted to, but he likes the IU party vibe. No surprise!
I spend alot of time on campus, you can almost always find me in the Hershberg library, doing homework. Sounds dumb but I swear I get more HW done there then at home.
Anyways I know I need a backup but I don't see myself living in California, never in a million years USC. Ever. I'll take you up on Georgetown, I have heard some good things about it.

ya.... usc is like a last resort....
I dont even like typing those tree letters

ya georgetwon is good but its just as hard if not harder to get in so id bet if u got into George tahn you would have gotten into ND anyway

Thats awesome that you are on campus so much....

I mapquested my house to the nd cmapus and it would take approz 33 hours

Phoenix az... so cali is an option for me

what bout bc as a second resort??

I've never liked BC, mostly because I remember a really bad loss we had to them a few years back. But I need to separate the football from the school:) Other than that last minute loss I don't know much about BC. And I hope I don't step on anyones toes by saying this but St. Marys would be my second resort, they let any girl in. So I guess I would kinda be close to ND if I didn't get in, (knock on wood).

Er...hmmm...Isabella. My daughter's on-campus job was with Saint Mary's admissions office and they do NOT let ANY student in. She was quite surprised at some of the denials that were accepted elsewhere. :- )

But I need to separate the football from the school

Thats one of the hardest things to do.... but i think its a must

I know you were saying you planned on majoring in poli sci/international relations, which is exactly what I want to do.
I didn't grow up with Notre Dame the way you did, but I've pretty much become a fanatic about it anyway and for awhile I was sort of afraid that no other schools would match up if I didn't get in, but I kept looking around anyway.
Somebody already mentioned George Washington, and that's my second choice, so I figured I'd mention it again. It, of course, has an amazing poli sci major and professors, as well as the fact that its in DC. I've researched it a lot because I knew I needed a school other than ND. The downfall for it, is of course, no football team, but for me that's okay, because I've got a brother at Texas A&M so I root for them and I like basketball better anyway, but that can be a negative for the school. I would check it out if you're looking for another school, especially because it is easier to get into than ND.
Also, strictly speaking for an international relations major (although, I'm sure they're poli sci major is good too) Texas A&M does have an amazing program. In Texas top 10% of each class at every school is guaranteed admissions to public colleges, so for me A&M is a safety, but if you have stats even borderline for admissions into ND, A&M should be easy. Its their graduate program with the most prestige, I guess, but their undergraduate program is still really good. It, like ND, has a huge football program, and although their student body is a lot larger than ND, you still have an amazing sense of community and you are part of a huge family.
I can't really comment as much about GW as I can A&M, because I have a brother and a best friend at A&M, so I know it a bit more, but both are great schools for poli sci/inter. relations so I would check them both out.
Also, I don't remember where I read it, but Texas A&M and ND are two of the top schools with the biggest alumni networks. In the article thing it said something like 'Aggies hire Aggies and Irish hire Irish' which can be a plus for both schools too.
Hope this helps a little bit, I guess. And heck, maybe we'll both get into ND and study poli sci together. Lol =)

hey, im also a junior and have the same thoughts you all are having about finding another school. my brother goes to bc and he wants nothing more than for me to stop talking about how great nd is... but i think you guys would understand... it just isnt that easy.
anyway, ive been to bc a few times and the campus is beautiful and the sports are fun... the thing for me that is missing is the feeling of community and the down-to-earth quality in the students (as a whole of course-- and hey, i could have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time and be misunderstanding completely). maybe some of you feel the same way, but what i like a lot about nd is the impression i get that it is just full of "good people". maybe this is a weird question, but has anyone experienced a similar feeling on another campus?

no.....
Notre Dame is amazing in every aspect

but i think you have to forget about Notre dame when you look at other schools though

ummm.....
anyone else get their psat scores back??

-im still waiting on them and my "official" 1st semester grades
