Donate Your Long Hair

For the young women (& maybe some men) who will be cutting their long hair for indoc/beast, etc. please consider donating your hair to "Locks of Love" the non-profit that makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment and other diseases. http://www.locksoflove.org/index.php. They accept min. 10 inches measured tip to tip. It doesn't have to be cut by a specialist.

Since your hair must be shorn anyway, it makes sense to have it go to a wonderful cause, rather than onto the floor.

And you certainly don't want the academy barbers chopping it!

10 inches? im not THAT hippy :)

I don't have hair. I have fuzz. :D

Great idea, weski! I'd love to hear how many of the female cadets/mids would consider this option.

There is someone's daughter here doing this but I can't recall who. WVDad? I thought it just the nicest thing to do. Waste not want not! Or should I say Waste not, not gonna let you have anyway.... :) Nice nice idea.

Taffy: I thought you were going to UI and become a Fighting Illini!?

Pass the message on - especially at the various picnics, newsletters and just general discussion - guys and gals! Short window of opportunity here.

All three of my daughters have donated to Locks of Love. My youngest donated 17 inches two years ago, my oldest donated 12 inches this past Christmas, and middle daughter (USNA class of 2010) donated 12 -13 inches two weeks ago. It's a great program and it's wonderful to see how well known it has become.

Darling daughter donated her waist length curls when her medical waiver came through. Her hair stylist was thrilled to deliver that ponytail to the donation site.

Dad cried...

I'll be doing this when I go. I haven't cut mine since last April and I won't get it done until before I go to my I-day next year.

"Taffy: I thought you were going to UI and become a Fighting Illini!?"

i am, but i like to come in here and pretend my social life is gonna end in 2 weeks.

beachmom - it's always the dads that surprise you...he'll be pouring over website pix...

taffy - move on, boy! You are going Big 10! Find a fraternity!

weski ... While I've no idea how many young ladies-in-waiting will have the required 10+ locks, yours is a GREAT, win-win idea. Thanx for suggesting it.

Weski, alas, we have to keep our Taffy around a while longer. He's applying again next year. He did get an appointment to USMMA this year but chose to wait it out to get where he really wanted. Nothing I said could sway him over to the dark side. LOL So, he's just gonna re-apply & go green on us. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY boy! Don't let the voices win! The maritime academies await you!! I just won't give up the ship just yet. There's still time! :P

JmzM is going to donate some of her hair so boss can make a too-pay :D

Bossf51 - are your having a case of hair envy?

It doesn't surprise me that so many in this community have heard of and donated to this worthy program! They do a wonderful job for kids who have lost their hair and just want to be one of the kids.
