The four key points of the first post in this thread bear repeating.
A school isn’t a safety unless:1) it’s pretty much certain to admit the applicant, based on
its known behavior in acting on recent admission applications
That said, in this day & age, with increasing competitiveness, a different model
is needed to provide a guarantee (e.g. - at many Canadian schools, if one meets a defined and published GPA/SAT threshold, one is offered admission).

2) has a strong program in an area the applicant is interested in
3) is affordable based on its known behavior in acting on financial aid
applicationsPoint 2 is self-explanatory.
Point 3 is never guaranteed, but a question of likelihood.4) is likeable to the applicant If a student hates a school, it’s not a safety.
That said, it should be an informed hate. ;)

I’m thinking about calling UPitt my safety (their acceptance rate is >50%, and I’m above their metrics in everything), but does anyone know how many non-PA students they admit?

Also, to Maharg, while I don’t have any ideas for your safety (though knowing McCallie you’d probably be fine at a major Public if you have a couple ECs), it’s good to see a fellow TN student here!

Wow. Maybe that’s only because you’re on Mars.

I think my safeties are CUNY Brooklyn College and CUNY Hunter College. They reject a lot of applicants, but that’s because a lot of them don’t have high enough SATs or something. But I do way better than their median stats, so I know I’m in.

What would be a safety college for an international student with good grades who wants a local arts education and is interested in extracurriculars?

Hi everyone , this is my first time posting here .

I am a student who completed higher secondary in India . My parents have been in the US for two years , so after completing +2 I came here .
I have scored almost 94% on my Cbse board exams .
I spend the last two years studying for the Indian entrance exam , and hence I have had no time for anything else .
Plus in my school , there was nothing else , I come from a small area , and it is not advanced like many Indian Cities . I never even knew of the SAT exam before coming to the USA.
I find the SAT exam very easy compared to the entrance exam back in India. I think O can score well , and I am preparing for it too .

I am at a moral dilemma here . I want to enter any of the good engineering colleges . I would prefer of the classes start in January as then I won’t have to wait again for 6 months .

I wanted to study at MIT , but now I currently feel that the dream will go unfulfilled as I do not even compare to the students here . I used to work so hard there in India , I had to go on 4 hour sleep for so many month , it was difficult for me to manage both school as well as entrance prep . I had to travel almost 80 km during each holiday to go to my entrance coaching center , but all that hard work is of no use here . I feel kind of sad .

I like making things , in India there was no time for this , but now I have time , I plan on making a system that opens when a the door, when a person stands in front of it . And I have many many such ideas that I want to try out .

Is there any chance that I can get into MIT ?

Can you suggest a few good engineering colleges ? I want to have the ability to do research and a difficult curriculum .

I am applying to MIT early action.

Also , any good engineering colleges that begins in January ?
How is Purdue and copper union ???

This isn’t a chance thread, go to the right forum, and create your own thread there. What’s really ironic is that you’re asking for a chance at MIT on a thread talking about safeties haha.
