Don't Get Hung Up on Numbers and Lists

Grades, long list of EC's, SAT/ACT scores, GPA, class rank, yeah that stuff's all great. But too many people get hung up on that stuff and stressed out when it comes to college admissions. There is so much more than numbers and lists when it comes to getting into college. Too many students don't realize that you're never guaranteed denial with a so-so class rank or GPA and you're never guaranteed admission as a valedictorian or with 100 EC's. What if applicant A had a higher class rank and GPA than applicant B but applicant A had easy teachers and applicant B had tougher teachers? College admissions people want to see that you're a person, which is why the ESSAY is the most important part of admissions.

Don't stress over numbers and lists to impress. Yes they're important but not as much as everyone thinks.

Actually, it is the numbers (usually some combination of GPA, rank, and/or test scores) that are most important for the four year schools that most four year college students attend – the moderately and less selective regional state universities.

And, even at the most selective schools where essays and other criteria become more important, having good numbers tends to be a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for admission.

This is too true.
