don't know credentials for grad schools

I'm thinking about grad school right now even though I'm a sophomore undergrad History major at St. Bonaventure. Right now I'm just wondering what colleges look at for grad school applicants. I have a 3.54 gpa but I should get that up to a 3.65 at the end of this semester and hope to get it to a 3.8 for my 4 total years. I was wondering how much weight gpa has with college decisions (I'm hoping to go to Boston College and both my father and sister are undergrads from there). Also any suggestions on what could help me are welcome. Thanks.

One of the most important factors is the recommendations you receive from your professors. Grad schools then try and evaluate your GPA in classes related to your field of study. They don't care how you might have done in a lab science, they will care about how you performed in your history analysis classes. Any research you do will also be weighed in your chances of admission. You need to show that you are an adept historian through excellent letters of recommendation and stellar performance in your history classes.
