Idk, I researched this school a long time ago, and I thought I heard them mention something about chemistry.

I’m interested to see what others say. I was interested in W&L because of its biochemistry program. It looks like the school has some good labs, qualified faculty members and great research opportunities, but I don’t know for sure.

Bump

My son plans to be a Chemistry major. Please see my comments in the thread just above this one.

BUMP

I’m a current student but not a science major. I have many friends that are science majors, they’re all smart kids and are really challenged by their coursework. From their POV, our science departments are very strong.

That’s as helpful as I can be.

One question too: I read on Niche that the social aspect is really “tough.” Like, it’s not easy to make friends if you’re not in a frat. Are there any “nerdy” or “geeky” frats? And is the number of Asian Americans really really low? I’m afraid if I go there, I might have a really hard time making friends there.

There is a thread on “nerdy” frats already, check it out. My opinion is that overall we are a nerdy school, that being said there are still varying degrees to how nerdy students are.

Don’t assume you won’t join a fraternity, Greek life is sooo prevalent at W&L that you are likely to find a fraternity that fits your personality (they are all different). There are nerdy fraternities, most notably Sigma Nu, that is their stereotype it doesn’t make them any less of a fraternity or any less of a member of the Greek community, it’s just the type of guy they tend to attract.

I don’t know why you would pick your friends based on their race, but there are asian kids in the school. If you want to limit yourself to that then you may have an issue, but we’re not a school where your race determines your friends (we’re too small and too white for that).

It’s not that I’m limiting myself on which friends to choose, just that my parents have been trying to convince me not to apply there (their experience when they were in Wisconsin together). Thank you for the response!
