Don't you hate it when teachers go over things OVER and OVER?????

This pretty much only happens in my chemistry class. We take notes from a powerpoint and we are SUPPOSED to study them but it always seems like I'm the only one who actually does that because people in my class always ask my teacher the same questions over and over and the teacher is kind of boring so I have to sit there while the teacher goes over what she's said a million times AGAIN for all the people who didn't care enough to study. (That was a very long sentence). And this is right before the test which gives us less time to actually take the test. Do you also have this problem?

I usually try my best to be patient with people in these situations. There have been many times when I was the only person who didn’t understand something, and I was always grateful when someone spent time explaining it to me even though my questions were probably really frustrating.

Yes. This is every class for me.
Especially Econ. The class average on a quiz was 35% and I got a flat 100%. Guess that means we spend a week going over the same material again, because it “didn’t make sense”…

There are a variety of people out in the world. Perhaps this should be extra incentive for you to get into a great college, where you study with people who are more, intellectually, like you.

That said, this happens to me so many times that sometimes, I honestly would like to self-study everything.

My Honors Chemistry teacher is pretty darn good at teaching, but all of the other students don’t pay attention to anything that she says, so they’re always lost and she has to go over things again and again. I used to not have that problem because she let me work individually on the chapters in the lab, but then I got a C on one test so she had me join the rest of the class.

It’s especially frustrating because she doesn’t notice how easily everyone cheats on her tests. (I go to a technology school, and we’ve been taking our tests online on our laptops. She sits in the back of the room, but she doesn’t notice when the students progressively tilt their screen and computers, and lower the brightness settings.)

Do any of you get the problem with group work, though. No one ever does their work, and sometimes I even get blamed for “trying too hard.” Sorry, but I’m not satisfied with a B in the class. This is a huge problem at my school (everyone agrees, even the not so smart ones).

With other people not doing work or cheating, I usually just ignore them to the best of my ability. As long as I can maintain a good grade and I actually learn the material, I’m set. It’s been hard to change my mindset to this, but I think I’m actually nearing the point where I can really stop caring about other people with regards to their academics. Of course, I still get frustrated if I don’t have time to do the work of everybody in my group. When I get in a group with smarter people who do do work…free time, so much free time all of a sudden.

Sometimes I feel like the idea of group work is the most disturbing thing that teachers could’ve come up with. I mean, if you’re in a group with like-minded, creative students, or at least ones that want to get an A just as much as you do, it’s not a problem, and it could actually be pretty nice. Some people just don’t care, and like you, I usually don’t have a problem with that - until it effects me. I try to be nice about it though.

Probably the only reason I can think of to thank college selectivity for. At least I will go to a college where everyone is similar to me grade-wise.

I hate incompetent teachers more.

Speaking of incompetent teachers, my AP World sometimes seems emotionally hurt. I guess the main reason is that this year’s sophomore class, my class, doesn’t seem to like him as much as his previous classes. One time, me and my friend were talking about a funny memory from our AP Human teacher, and he comes up and pretty much laughs in an awkward way and says, “I guess you’re stuck in my lame, boring class now.” He looked sad, and it made us feel kind of weird. I wouldn’t call his teaching incompetent, but still… I shouldn’t feel guilty about not being friends with my teacher.

It’s not so bad.
When I work in a group, I either do all the work or the group members help me.
When I work alone, I definitely do all the work.

When I do group my group never lets me do anything. I think they think I’m stupid. Of course I never ask, but still.

Eh, they’re probably just control freaks.

@halcyonheather‌ No, they just never ask me if I want to help. And I’m too shy to ask. And then it ends up being horrible. It’s partially my fault.

@dsi411 happens to me when I don’t think they’re doing the right thing. In that case, I just do the whole thing by myself, if possible. In the end, my version is used. Again, it only gets really annoying when there’s too much work for me to do by myself.

I definitely thought that in middle school. It was better when I was in AP classes. Going over the same information was less common. I think teachers do that in lower level classes because most kids don’t study and never learned it the first time around. They need to review it multiple times before they actually learn it. It is better in that aspect in classes where a lot of content needs to be covered.

OH MY GOSH YES. DEAR GOODNESS. I AM SO FED UP WITH IT.
My oldest brother said, “Freshmen year is the last year you have to be with stupid people.” (that seems a bit mean, but that’s what he said…) but he was wrong. These people aren’t stupid, but they’re unmotivated and uncaring.

Oh my gosh, I know, right? And you would expect to not see that any more taking honors classes in high school, but that’s not true. I think that’s half of the reason that I’m taking five AP classes next year.

@awakeningvenus‌ Yes, I’m in APHG right now and there are so many people that barely even know what’s going on
in that class; I don’t know why they even signed up!

My AP Biology class is like that. Sometimes the people in class act like we’re learning rocket science instead of DNA replication.
