Donut Tour

Yes, I have a donut pan. I remember sharing the NYT recipe quite a while back on another thread where you posted that your first attempt didn’t turn out as you’d hoped. I bet you’re a pro now!

What a memory you have! Yes, I’ve had some better success. Which sometimes just means going to the donut store instead.

You mean, “what a memory the CC search function has.”

This is not quite true. Dunkin’ has both kinds. I used to really like the Butternut Donut, but I haven’t seen them in years. I usually get a jelly filled one. I used to get one of the sticks, but they have twice as many calories as many other choice so I don’t any more. We only have donuts on long drives, but it’s one of my husband’s rituals.

The best doughnut I’ve ever had was the original Krispy Kreme still warm from the original store in Atlanta.

I’m reminded that I do occasionally get apple cider donuts from the local Farmer’s Market.

This is where we used to get our apple cider donuts (and apples).

Yep, as mentioned above, when the red donut sign is on at krispy kreme, that means they are being made fresh and can be purchased hot off the rack. It’s fun to watch them take them off the rack after the glaze is poured over them and box them up (no way do you just buy one when they are hot off the rack!) sadly, @mathmom, the one downtown, the original atlanta on on Ponce, had a fire and was torn down. :sob::sob::sob::sob:

You all are killing me. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Nothing better than a key lime donut, or a chocolate cake donut.

So……I beg you all ……please do not start a pasta tour thread!!!

I’ve been thinking about donuts for the last several days!!!

Every fall when I was growing up in Michigan, either as a family or on school trips, we’d go to the Franklin Cider Mill to watch the ancient water-powered press crush the apples into pulp and juice. There was nothing like that fresh cider and warm cinnamon-sugared donuts in the greasy bag.

I’m with @123Mom123 – please stop making me drool. I don’t have the willpower to leave this thread. :doughnut:

Where’s my donut pan…

Oh that’s very sad. If I ever get back to Atlanta that would have been on my list of things to do again!

There are still other Krispy Kreme’s around where they can be purchased hot off the rack (ask me how I know). One year (before the one on Ponce had its fire) DH and I went on our anniversary to Nancy’s pizza, which was right next to they Krispy Kreme, and then went over to get hot off the rack donuts nextdoor. The sign was on but the door was locked- only the drive thru was open. So we stood in the drive thru line with the cars and got our anniversary donuts!

Had to share - we have a genuine neon Kristy Kreme sign hanging in our basement.

Years ago H was at a garage sale - the person maybe worked for one that closed? My son LOVED KK. :doughnut: H bought it for $7.

My sister and cousin did a Seattle tour in the before times; they really enjoyed it.

My grandma would make us donuts and I have fond memories of warm cinnamon sugar cake donuts and a cup of tea.

My favorite is a maple bar. A place near to where I was working had the best. I’d stop in on a Saturday or Sunday and get a maple Pershing that I’d swear was as big as my head. It would last me the entire day.

A buttermilk bar from Countryside donuts seems to be the go-to on the rare occasions now that I have a treat.

A pershing has long been a fav of mine, BUT I have found that I would prefer a better ratio of donut to frosting/toppings. Sometimes (as you mention) the donut part is too much yeast donut and not enough frosting/nuts! I prefer the vanilla frosting and crushed nuts like this…

VooDoo donuts!!! yum!!

Fun fact: our wedding giveaway was boxes of Krispy Kremes. Alas, they were not warm at the point guests were leaving, but they still were delicious!

Buy a dozen, get a dozen free today. Too tempting but NO!

Add me to the fans of maple bars, especially from my local Countryside.
