GreenWaveMama balconies I think are for aesthetics. I went to google maps and I didn’t see any rails.

My daughter ended up in the corner she wanted just on a different floor in Wall. She said she loves the room. She went random and I’m not sure if she has been in contact with her roommate yet.

My daughter was very disappointed she did not get either her 1st or 2nd choices (Monroe and Sharp)…she is in Butler and convinced her social life is over. I think she will be just fine! I particularly love this part of the description of the dorm online… “They tend to be some of the more involved students on campus, regularly taking leadership roles and positions throughout the University, winning intramural sports titles, and leading school spirit”…but I’m just the parent…

S is thrilled - in Monroe - corner room off “common room.” On the floor plan it looks like 2 rooms are accessed through that common room - either it will serve as a nice living space or a noisy place for the floor to hang out in - not sure. S is happy about it…

sportsforher - She will be just fine. Dorms are not the center of social life for a lot of students. Tulane is an “outside school”, due to the temperate climate. Join a few clubs and organizations, mix and mingle, and before you know it you are only in your dorm to sleep, shower and maybe to study.

which floor Bloomy? S is right next to the “common room” on the 9th. I assumed that the “common room” is only for the 2 rooms that share it. Doesn’t look big enough for the whole floor.

Bummer that the balconies are closed! Son’s room is on the backside of the dorm (Room 207), we can’t seem to find any pictures of that side. The rooms on that side look bigger in the floor plan than those on the front side. Wondering if this floor is all singles?

I would imagine the balcony thing is a safety issue. Given the reality of college kids and drinking…I seem to remember that the second floor balconies are open, but maybe not or maybe they changed it.

The second floor is almost all singles. The end rooms are not, same for a room or two in the middle. See the floor plan I linked to in a post on the first page of this thread.

I am 95% sure that A) the keys for that room only work for the people in the adjoining rooms; and B) that a lot of the time they are opened up for the rest of the floor to come visit. There are much larger lounges on most of the other floors that are the ones that are actually supposed to be used as dorm common areas, as opposed to this smaller common area for those two rooms. It is a luxury to be sure.

As far as balconies, looking at the blueprints I remembered that there are balconies on the 7th and 10th floors that used to be accessible. Again, whether that has changed I do not know. Few of these dorms are cookie cutter patterns. Amenities vary and are just the luck of the draw, especially as freshmen.

Bloomy-The common room utilized by everyone is directly across from the elevator. The much smaller common rooms at the ends of the halls are shared by the 4 individuals whose rooms are adjacent. Depending on the occupants, it can be just extra storage space, a study room, a party room, a gathering room or whatever they like. D2 is talking about buying futons and a tapestry, forgetting that 3 other people must be consulted!

My DS was assigned to Warren. I did not even know that was a freshman option. It says it houses freshmen and sophmores and is co-ed. Does anyone know anything about Warren?

I know that S1’s freshman year that some were assigned to Warren. Some were very excited because apparently there are sinks in the the room. From the website, it looks very similar to the other dorms.

Yes we are very happy that he is getting a single room with a sink in it! I just hope he is not too far away from the other freshmen. I read that it is the oldest dorm (concerned) and the location is great (happy). I just don’t see much posted about Warren and was very surprised. It is “known” for anything?

Sportsforher…Same with my daughter. Her first two choices were Monroe and Sharp, respectively. She ended up in Butler, as well. She has the same concerns as your daughter.

Well, for you Butler people, I can only tell you that my D was in Butler freshman year and appreciated that there was a quieter place to go when she was done with everything else. But it wasn’t like it didn’t have its share of people that enjoyed being as social as anyone else. There certainly was less drinking, yelling in the halls at 3 AM and people puking in the elevators. I am not sure how that is a bad thing. My point is that her social life was outside the dorm for the most part, and she certainly got to know people from all the dorms through classes, clubs, and organizations. If your child wants a “party heartily” atmosphere they will have no trouble finding it. The dorm absolutely does not define the experience.

Does anyone know if the dorms include a microwave? I was under the impression that they provided a “micro-fridge” in every dorm now. However, when I look at the details in the amenities section of the Warren House it only states a mini-fridge. Also, we will have to purchase a bicycle for him once we get there - any suggestions as to where to get a decent, cheap, maybe even used bike?

I am pretty sure there is a micro-fridge combo in all the dorms that don’t have kitchens. Probably someone just didn’t notice that the Warren page needed updating for that. I suggest you write to the housing department and ask, and point out that if indeed they have upgraded to micro-fridges that they correct the web site. My only other thought is that maybe the older wiring in Warren (if it is still older, might have been upgraded for all I know) might not support that many microwaves, but only one way to find out.

Thanks for all of your input today FC. I noticed on the floor plan that Warren does indeed have a kitchen on the 2nd floor and a small one on the first. So, maybe they do not include a microwave. I will take your advice and contact housing. .
