Dorm Assignments

OK, let us know what they say. Although when I said kitchens, I meant as part of the apartment or suite. I think some of the upperclassmen dorms like Willow and Aron have kitchens, they are more like real apartments. But we will await your report to see what the Warren situation is.

JtoJo4 - My daughter is coming around as I knew she would. She is realizing for herself that what FC said above is true…she can get her sleep and studying done at Butler and party elsewhere. She also appreciates how centrally located it is…right across from Bruff etc. She stayed there for orientation and admits it was pretty nice. She was further mollified by a trip to BBB now that we know for sure the bed size etc. Hope yours can see the light too!

There are micro-fridges everywhere but Aron Apartments as FC indicated. There are also full kitchens in every dorm like the ones in Warren I am pretty certain.

Btw, for those whose kids are concerned about Butler, some of S1’s most party-going friends lived in Butler freshman year!

Yeah, Butler gets a bad rap. I agree it doesn’t have as high a percentage of hard partiers as Monroe or Sharp, but again I am not sure how that is a bad thing. We all (and I am sure this includes almost every incoming freshman) know that finding a party at Tulane (or any college) isn’t ever difficult.

RE: dorm kitchens. I couldn’t recall kitchens in Monroe or Sharp off-hand. Do they have them now? Those dorms used to be all male in the old, old days so kitchens were not much of an issue. I see on the floor plan a place for a barber shop in Monroe, that was a bit of a surprise. It used to be in the LBC. Is the blueprint accurate on that, or is it out of date?

I kind of like that some of the would-be Monroe/Sharp crowd is coming to Butler - I’d like a quiet place to sleep, but not TOO quiet. I put Sharp as my second choice, and for a while I had been kind of torn between doing M/S or Butler, since I want a vibrant social life, but what pushed me towards Butler was the idea of a place to recuperate when the party is over for the night, etc. A couple people told me it’s great to live in Butler, Wall, or Paterson and have friends in Monroe and Sharp.

My daughter and roommate got first choice Butler! Both plan to be plenty involved-sports, academics, social etc. The idea of having a bit more calm in residence was appealing-haha-as if calm and college can coincide

Yeah, I think that is true Claire. Every needs to keep in mind that Tulane is not a huge campus, and the dorms are pretty much in the same space. Even JL isn’t but a hundred steps or so from everything. This makes the whole dorm thing somewhat less of an issue than at many other schools, and it helps make Tulane the tight-knit community that it is.

FC went back to Google Maps and it looks like no rails on the upper floors on the front side of Monroe. Trees partially block the backside view from South Robertson St. but it looked the same to me. Apparently Google filmed the campus from sidewalks so you have streetview available for virtual walking tours.

My D is in Sharp and very excited. Any other Sharp people?

WhereAreU - Yes, I see what you mean. So I think my hypothesis that they are closed off for safety reasons is likely correct. Because while I certainly could be mistaken thinking back that far, I think you could go out on some balconies originally. Hard to be sure, now. Either way, just as well that they cannot.

Nice shots of the dorms though. But I still think Monroe and Sharp are very unattractive, same for Phelps and Irby. I guess these were all built when there was a more minimalist and utilitarian mindset. It will be interesting to see what they replace Phelps/Bruff with.

Yes Oliver! S2 is in Sharp, first floor!

S is in Sharp, fifth floor. Do we need to take back all his XL bed stuff?

According to the website - Sharp has regular sized sheets, Monroe has extra long.

The only thing that would make any difference at all is the fitted sheet. I’d just buy one regular fitted sheet if a baggy sheet troubles you at all. They typically wash the same set and put it back on the bed even though we feel compelled to send extras.

The sheets my S has on his bed at home are XL because those were the sheets he liked and he just has a regular twin. They are a little baggy in the length but it doesn’t bother him and they stay on just fine.

Well I guess it’s time to start packing! The mailbox information and package labels just showed up in my mailbox today!!!

My son is in Sharp as well. 2 nd floor.

23 days until Move In!!!

In Monroe this year.

My son is in Paterson (his first choice) and his roommate wrote him a nice email suggesting they connect via text message. (I had to text my son with the info since he’s still working at camp with no access to his Tulane email).

The roommate is from Chicago so if there’s anyone here whose kid this might be, feel free to PM me!! :D
