dorm dc price will rise

Evil housing and dining people! they are raising breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner up by 25 cents each, but still the same 2500points a year.

Dinner is 7.25 now, and last year was 7.00 according to their site.

Why are the prices rising? dorm prices also going up $1k more- it's almost 2x than the cost of the educational fees (for clark kerr it really will be 2x more).

According to the poverty wages flyers for the custodians, housing and dining made $2 million in profit last year.

Inflation?

Rent extraction.

A consequence of unchanging supply and increasing, or excess, demand.

Which would lead to some points I've made before but I'll save you the trouble of calling me a troll Drab and leave it at that.

Darn capitalist opportunists everywhere

yeah, i didn't realize how overpriced campus housing was until i started looking at apartments. $12,000 for two semesters in a unit 1 (old) double indeed! Not to mention $70/semester for a phone i only use to receive SF Chronicle telemarketer calls.

Don't blame capitalism. Blame the socialist whackjobs that sit on the Berkeley rent board. Actually, it goes hand in hand too with the rising costs of the university and a myriad of other economic prinicples. But the Rent Controls in Berkeley are a joke.

$1750/month for a not-so-nice two bedroom apartment. Sad.

I'm looking into the co-ops too (year after next year), but I heard they will also raise $1k soon for ALL co-opers because of a remodeling of the central kitchen.

I don't think I've referred to you with the word "troll," but you often embody the idea.

Most certainly you're correct to some extent- the university provides a certain number of students around the area, and they need someplace to live.

Maybe I am trolling this time.. just venting it out. Sorry if it seems that way b/c I definitely don't mean to.

He can troll if he wants to. Better if people know the facts than someone's version of the truth.

Most people's facts seem to be "different versions of the truth." I don't think you were trolling, unlimited. Ew, I just used the word "trolling." May I do it rarely if ever again.

Nearly everyone dislikes D/H Services. The housing prices for next year are absolutely ridiculous. The real injustice is that for people with scholarship money, housing/board costs are NOT tax exempt, while tuition and req'd fees ARE exempt, so the cost distribution screws you out of money.

If you look at the cost of a place like a double in a suite at clark kerr, its incredibly overpriced.
Cost per student- approx $14,500
Cost per student, only housing- approx $12,000
Cost per student, per month- approx $1,333
Cost per month for suite (total - 4 students)- approx $5,333
Total cost for suite (2 semesters - 4 students)- approx $48,000

Over 5k a month for one of those dumps? They dont have adequate lighting, they have whitewashed walls, and they have all kinds of problems... sorry D/H but those slums simply are not worth over 5k per month. What a tremendous ripoff.

Nearly everyone? I haven't seen any survey results, have you?

No of course not, I'm just making a broad statement. In general, the people I have talked to about D/H services do indeed have some major gripes about it. They arent that bad, but certain things, including their prices are just scams. I will give them credit for improving their food though.
