Dorm equipment and move-in tips?

DeskPotato - also consider getting your D a external drive for back up (guess if you use the cloud you don’t need it). My D did use the overhead storage at Hughes - very useful.

If anyone hasn’t seen what the rooms look like inside, Housing & Dining posted pictures of the Container Store setups on their Facebook page.

Thanks for posting. Spent the day shopping for dorm stuff. We’re wondering where the cable outlet is located in the room, and if it’s possible to put a small TV in the center section of the storage cabinet.

My D"s roommate did put a tv in the center part of the storage unit - a little higher than the fridge

Looks like most of your questions got answered, but might as well throw in my 2 cents

It is always cheaper to buy an re-use than rent. That being said… the smallest micro-fridge (like

2 cubic feet, not a freezer; just fridge and microwave) is about $375 to buy. After comparing a bunch of prices I went to Sears and bought a 3.5 cubic feet fridge/freezer split unit for $160. Our room is right across from the lounge, so for $200 I think we can walk across the hall to microwave popcorn. If you want a microwave you MUST buy the micro-fridge, if you don’t need a microwave than you can have any mini-fridge brand.

There rarely is room, if you loft them maybe, I highly doubt there would be room in a triple though.

You can have whatever appliances you want (ie: coffee maker, iron, toaster, etc) BUT none of these can be plugged into the wall in your dorm room… wink wink Technically you have to plug small appliances into the plugs in common spaces due to fire code stuff, but I don’t think it’s very enforced.

Ceiling lights are provided (obviously) and all other lights have to be non-halogen. I believe you can’t have standing floor lamps, there’s some weird rules on that. I’d call housing if you’re unsure.

Have to bring it in and out. The guys bathrooms (and I’m assuming the girls too, but wouldn’t know) have a section to store stuff while you’re showering but that’s it.

Extra foam pads are highly encouraged, by me at least! I would NOT buy your sheets from the bookstore though, I’ve heard those aren’t great quality. Macys or Pottery Barn are good bets.

I’m a guy, but I’ve heard good things about this kind of set up [4 Boxes 32pc Hangers Multi Hangers Wonder As Seen On TV for sale](http://www.ioffer.com/i/4-boxes-32pc-hangers-multi-hangers-wonder-as-seen-on-tv-145359295)

You should have gotten a suggested packing list in the mail from AU (I’ve gotten at least 2 so far)

budmom, be careful with the size of the TV. My D first year in Letts a 23" TV fit in the center section. Last year in McDowell the same center section would only hold a 19-20" TV.

We have a 19 inch tv so that should work. Thanks for the info. Three weeks 'til move-in.
