As the realization of D leaving home in a few months starts to set in, I am starting to stock pile what she will need to bring. For all those seasoned Del (or any college) parent, are there any items you might suggest that would be outside the typical packing list that you found you missed? Thought maybe we could benefit from any advise you might think is helpful. Already starting to stress about move in day! (Me not her).

UD provides a good list of things needed on their website. I would just recommend that you bring a toolkit with you when you check in and some handiwipes (or some other type of disinfectant) to clean the dorm areas. Good luck. Also the garbage containers they provide are really small (unless things have changed) so you might want to consider a larger garbage container with some type of lid (college students are not known for taking out their garbage regularly. Good luck.

A hand vac came in handy and also air freshener!

cleaning products, rain boots, umbrella, we purchased a small dirt devil vac that also had a function as a push vac. over the counter medications, first aid kit, small tool kit. (also bring a rubber mallet for move in day in case the bed is not at the right height- didn’t need it freshman year but DID need is soph year so ya never know) Command hooks- one of those cheaper square fans that fit in the windows if you are in a non air conditioned dorm.

One thing you might want to consider is to purchase some plastic containers (from the Container Store, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.) with pull out drawers that can be stacked on top of one another and put under the bed once the bed is elevated. Especially for women this can provide a lot more drawer space. Our D found this to be very convenient and space saving. Just an idea. Good luck.

Thanks…great suggestions. I see lots of cleaning supplies are in order! Something I am sure was not on my D radar at all!
