Everyone keeps saying duct tape. Maybe it's just me, but I have no idea what I'd use it for. It seems a little tacky to use duct tape to keep things together. Maybe for packing boxes (which I'm not using, only suitcases... yay for airplanes!)... but what else?

Duct tape and a tool kit
Command hooks (by 3M)
fan
stapler (you will not believe how many people do not have a stapler)
lysol wipes (trust me on this)
earplugs

Maybe Lauren or someone can tell me why duct tape is an essential. My dad gave me 2 rolls to include in my packing, but I have NO CLUE what I'll use it for.

Duct tape really isn't essential. I borrowed a friends to hang up christmas lights, but obviously that wasn't completely necessary. I think it's probably just one more thing to take up space and you can just borrow someone else's.

A Brita water filter is probably one of the best things you can buy.

duct tape can be used to hang decorations, repair broken stuff, fix the couch your friend broke (cough cough), be a decoration in and of itself, and help you make friends when other people want to do these things!

duct tape wallets, duct tape belts, duct tape shirts, duct tape pants, lol i would never make these things but according to videos on youtube people do in fact make them.

My friend did that! the duct tape prom dress thing. She totally got ripped off by not winning too, because her and her date went as Scarlett and Rhett from Gone with the Wind! Also, I have seen a duct tape wallet and they are surprisingly sturdy.

Oh, and I would say definitely bring some kind of camera. Digital is best, but if you can't afford it, those cheap disposables work too. I take so many pictures of my friends and I doing crazy stuff! You will want to have a record of all your adventures during college.

A laptop, mouse, mechanical pencils, pens, notebooks, textbooks, clothing, hygiene products. Make sure you have easy access to healthy, good food. A mini fridge (split with your roommate)

Do you think a microwave along with ramen and easy mac (or to heat up pizza of course) would be a good idea? And on a different note, what about a video game system?

Playing cards, chips, and money. I'm not kidding. Poker (Hold'em) is a great way to make friends and is inexpensive, because most college kids are playing with a buy-in of $5 that will last the entire night. Everybody respects a guy who knows how to hold'em.
