I'm a girl who got accepted to IU and I have guarenteed first choice housing. I went and visited housing and took a tour of a dorm. One thing that kept being emphesised is that there are some floors that are ALL one gender and others that are mixed. On the housing form there was no way to specify which I wanted (which would be all one gender), but I don't really want to be pushy or make a big deal out of it. So could someone tell me how the mixed floors work? For example is there anything seporating the "wings" (i.e. a locked door) or am I really going to see half-naked guys walking down my hall? Also, should I call/email housing and make a request, or just wait and see, or just relax?

Extra Information-
I applied Central.
I'm in the honors program.
I asked for a single room.
I applied for housing about a week ago.

im also an accepted student and from what I remember from the dorm tour, they told us that mixed floors have a set of double doors that separate the two ends guys and girls

Generally if you are in a single room, you will be one end or another of your hall–but on the side of the “double doors” for your gender (if you end up on a floor that has both men and women on it)

Great to know you’re coming to IU! First off, are you living with in the honors community? That is where I’m living now and next year, so I can easily explain this situation.

The honor’s community is in Teter-Boisen 3 and 4(the most north eastern building in Teter). Basically, there are two hallways parallel to each other, connected with two short halls. One hallway is all girls while the other hallway is all guys. So it is highly unlikely you will see a guy changing or something.

You will likely be on my floor if you are living with in the honors community because my floor has the single girls room on it. It’s a really good floor and I think you’ll enjoy it. A lot of people are coming back next year and we have a great community feel. It’s a lot different from other floors. Just relax and feel free to e-mail me any other questions.
