I moved into Bursley in the fall of 1971. The biggest thing we moved into our dorm room was the stereo - speakers, amp, preamp, tuner (or a receiver), reel-to-reel tapedeck, turntable. Record collection in the 100s. Rule on speakers - the bigger, the better! Altec’s Voice of the Theater speakers were at the top of the heap. Google them to see how big they were. Hauling those things up and down stairs was no mean trick.

Now you bring Ipod nanos smaller than a deck of cards.

What I’m doing is getting an A/C for seasonal allergies. If you can bribe some Dr for a note, seems much better than a fan and your roommate should love you for it.

If you can’t study with noise, then some noise canceling headphones or ear buds will be your best friend. They were perfect to drown out my roommate’s snoring and MTV at 3 AM.

Definitely have a white board. They’re great to diagram anything and everything, from calc equations to latin sentences.

Basic first aid supplies are also useful. I know that you could probably find a band-aid anywhere, but having those, neosporin, benadryl, and advil in the room will make you much happier when you don’t have to go hunting for them.
