Ok this may just be me, but do Duke's dorms suck? I stayed in Basset for TIP and it really really sucked. Even compared to UT Austin's Jester dorm which is supposedly one of the worst in the state. Jester seemed awesome compared to Basset. Obviously I doubt all of Duke's dorms are that bad, but which (if any) are good?

OMG why?

I went into one residence hall and it was "so so," but are Duke's dorms really as awful as you say? I will be in Randolph come August, so I hope I am getting my money's worth! :)

haha don't freak out too much Devil...i just stayed in one. and it was an East Campus dorm...but i'm REALLY curious to know how the others are.

Anyone know about the West Campus ones?

Archon, did you happen to stay in a room with tile flooring? I lived in Bassett last year.

tile flooring? I don't think so...

yeah I went on a tour of the dorms on east campus - the ones on the main quad are def nothing to boast about, theyre pretty old, tho nicely kept for their age, but the downside - no AC, and its 100+ in Durham now yikes

The freshman dorms leave a lot to be desired. I am convinced that is why they are not a regular stop on the campus tours. However, the living conditions and location do improve once one becomes a sophomore.

My daughter lived in Wilson, which had hardwood floors and suite bathrooms. It seemed to be one of the better ones on East Campus. The major downside is that those in Wilson must clean their own bathrooms! All the other freshman dorms have hall bathrooms, and they are cleaned regularly by a custodial staff.

Yeah-- I didn't think my dorm room was the greatest, but it certainly wasn't BAD. I mean, I visited friends at schools that had far worse off living accomodations than I did.

West Campus is really nice though. Some rooms for sophomores are rough b/c you get the lowest numbers in the full campus lottery, but some rooms are FANTASTIC. My quad for next year is gorgeous and it was pretty recently renovated.

I stayed in Penn State dorms and I'll tell you...

Duke dorms all the way lol
