Hi guys. Can u give me plusses and minuses to living in Sutherland vs one of dorms not on the hill. Is Sutherland nicer? Are rooms bigger?

@mommabear48 the short answer is yes, the rooms are bigger than towers and some of the other dorms. Rooms are generally nicer, but of course the new Nordy dorm would be nicer than Sutherland I would guess.
My son loved Sutherland and living in honors housing. If you search Sutherland on this forum you’ll come up with several discussions of dorms that include compaisons and room sizes etc.

My S is currently in Sutherland–the rooms are nice and big, he was able to raise his bed for extra storage space, big window, ample closet space. There is a sink in his room, and he and his roommate share toilet/shower with two boys next door. There were issues in the first weeks with the other boys forgetting to unlock the toilet on my son’s side (not good when you really have to go first thing in the morning!) but now it is all smooth.

Sutherland is a hike up the hill–this is both a plus and a minus in my son’s view. So far he has avoided taking the shuttle and has been walking a lot, which has helped keep him in shape, but when the weather gets colder I’m not sure how much he’ll enjoy it!

My son was in Sutherland West. He really made great friends on his floor and liked honors housing so much he opted for it again. He was in a six person suite sharing a bathroom with 5 others. I will say the bathroom was gross by the end of the year because some of them didn’t clean so the others gave up.

He also rarely took the shuttle bus and instead of gaining the freshmen 15 he lost a good 10 pounds and got in to great shape - especially being on upper campus with the Pete and Trees - racquetball, etc. Overall I think he would pick Sutherland again even over Nordy.

thanks everyone
