I'm planning on putting in my housing deposit and I have hard time choosing between few.
I've read about the dorms and so far the ones that catch my eye are the BRP dorms and Kinsolving, as well as SRD. I don't mind so much on private/connecting/community bathrooms, but I would really like to have at least one window. I will, hopefully, get into Engineering and preferably dorms close to that, but I honestly wouldn't mind a walk. I don't really want a loud dorm (as Jester I guess). I am not super picky, just a decent size with decent closet and loftable bed? Do BRP and Kinsolving have loftable beds? Any suggestions/ recommendations please :)

I was an engineering major and lived in SRD all four years. It’s a wonderful dorm - very homey and great food. The swimming pool is a plus, too! It’s convenient to the engineering buildings, also. I highly recommend it! Oh, my mom lived there, also, from 1956 to 1960! I knew from the time I was very young that I wanted to live in SRD.

Aw! How cool that you and your mom lived in the same place.

OP, are you just looking at single sex dorms? Duren is close to engineering, pretty new, and relatively quiet, but it is coed. Loftable beds.

SRD tends to get lots of girls who are planning on going through sorority recruitment – not sure if that’s a plus or a minus for you And yes, SRD food is better than food in the UT dorms.

I suggest you put in your housing deposit ASAP or you won’t have much of a choice for on campus dorms. You can adjust your ordered choice of dorms and roommate if you find one all the way up until a date in late June or July. My son is in Jester on a renovated floor and got a room on the same floor and just one number difference from the room his dad had freshman year - strange. The community baths are nice especially for boys because they are cleaned twice a day! My son’s bath is literally across the hall from his room. And he says in an entire semester, he has only twice seen another person in the bathroom at the same time he was in there.

I’m in Kinsolving right now. The beds aren’t loftable but I still have plenty of space for all my stuff (there is storage underneath the beds as well as a dresser and a closet). Kinsolving is an older dorm so it isn’t as nice looking but I personally adore it. IMO, its location is great (right next to Guadalupe), although some may think it’s far from Gregory/Jester. Being above a dining hall and a convenience store is also awesome. Kinsolving also has this cool study lounge that’s convenient if you don’t want to walk to the PCL! The girls here are also really friendly.

I’ve heard the girls at SRD get “babied” (free food and cool events) but I’ve also heard they have strict rules (no male guests past the lobby or something like that). But I think SRD has a lot of girls who are rushing, so that will probably have a way different feel from Kinsolving.

I was an engineering student, not in a sorority, and SRD was fine. It used to be that you could never have guys on the halls, but they have loosened up the rules. We didn’t mind, actually - it was nice being able to wander around in your pajamas without worrying about guys seeing you.

I stayed in Kinsolving one summer when I attended a week-long piano workshop for high school students. I liked it, too!

I envy you girls - I miss UT.

Thanks guys! I guess its between Kinsolving and SRD. I visited both and I loved SRD. Very nice atmosphere. One more question, I was looking at the room choices and I saw that all the rooms had pretty standard beds. Is there enough room? Which room choice would you recommend? Are the desks small?

for SRD ^

I lived in a sunroom three years and loved it. Lots of windows and larger than a regular double room. No sink, but the extra room was worth it for me. There aren’t very many of them, though, so they’re kind of hard to get.

The room in between the two sunrooms on each floor is the TINY one. I couldn’t imagine fitting in there!
