From looking at some photos etc, it looks to me like the rooms in Jennie Murphree are slightly larger than the rooms in Gilchrist, Bryan, Reynolds… I know that the top floors in some of these buildings have oddly shaped rooms because of the roof etc. but aside from that, can anyone confirm whether or not the rooms in JM are slightly larger than the other dorms?
I can’t speak speciafically about Jennie, but keep in mind that all of the rooms in the renovated east side dorms will be different. These are old buildings that didn’t used to be suite style, so they fit rooms around existing features. I happened to live in one of the smaller rooms in Landis my freshman year, but there were average and generously sized rooms as well. The layouts they show you on the housing website just give you a general idea of layout and size. You might end up with a room that has a bump-out or one where you lose a few square feet because of ductwork. It’s really just the luck of the draw.
Right… I wonder if my son is in one of those smaller rooms because his room charge showed up on his account and the rent for his suite double is less than what is posted on the housing site. The housing site says all suite style doubles with a shared bath are $3240 but he was charged $3015. His room assignment is definitely a suite double with shared bath in JM according to the housing portal.
The same thing happened to me- the rent posted was $200 lower than what it should have been according to the rate chart. I came to the same conclusion that you did about the room being smaller than typical (I’m in Landis though, so I’m not sure it is building specific).
They deduct your housing down payment off your balance due.
@Susub123 Ahhh that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the clarification!
Yep, that was it… subtract the $225 deposit and fall semester was $3015 rather than $3240.
