dorm selection

Does anyone have any advice about dorm selection for a freshman? What are the advantages/disadvantages of some of the WPI dorms? How about single vs double vs triple vs quad?

Based on the housing request form, it looks as though students aren't able to request a certain dorm, instead they must select a "type" (Large Residential, Single Sex Floor, Quiet Floor, etc). That seems a little odd. And there doesn't seem to be a mechanism to select room type (single, double, etc), which is surprising given that singles are more expensive and should only be given to those willing to pay the extra $$.

Thanks for any input!

I think that space is scarce enough that they don't let you pick single/double/triple etc. Anyway, I'd try to go for co-ed or large residential if I were you.

What do you see as the advantages of Large Residential (as opposed to Small Residential or Quiet Hall)?

Thanks for your input!

Small residential might be a residence hall like Institute or Stoddard. They're not as nice as Daniels or Riley, which are the large residence halls.

I don't know about quiet halls. In general I have trouble studying with any distractions, so I almost invariably will end up studying at the library or in the commons room. So for me there wouldn't really be a benefit to a quite residence hall. But if you like to study in your dorm or sleep early, then you might want to look into a quiet hall.
