Dorm

My D will going to Brown this fall and I am thinking about the kind of dorms she should request for–substance-free or quiet halls. Now is it true that such dorms are normally on the ground floor? She prefers not to be on the ground floor…

Any input on this would be most helpful!

Go down the forum page a bit and click on "Dorm Life - Special interest housing". Please read threads and search for info before posting. Also, we don't know everything that's going to happen next year with housing as it changes year to year. The Office of Residential Life does - call them.

Hi Mumzy3;

I wrote the post wolfmanjack is speaking about, there is a link to reslife special interesting housing on it which was somewhat helpful. I had hoped to get students opinions on these living options and how they view them, or students opinions who actual chose these options. But I do not think alot of student choose these options..thus the lack of data.

I did call reslife and some of the students answering the phone were helpful. So I would recommend a phone call to help answer your questions.

For the record, subfree was on the end floor this year and quiet housing didn't happen because not enough ppl signed up for it.

They change locations each year depending on the # of ppl who sign up for it.

I already posted on another thread where quiet housing is going to be.

Thanks greatgirls!

I went back and read your post and it was very helpful. Yes, I will definitely call them and get more info.

On the subject of dorms... what furniture do they already have? A desk? Shelves?

Desk

Chair

Bed

Dresser

Bookshelf

Armoire (if your room doesn't have a closet built in)

Kristina, did you not sleep in a room here for adoch? Also can you please read the websites where this information is already posted?

Residential Life: Incoming Student FAQ

I did sleep in a room, but I forgot to ask what stuff my hosts brought, and what was provided. Thanks for the link.
