Hey, I just received an email yesterday saying as of right now they cannot provide me with a dorm (I am a new transfer), however, through cancellations during the summer they will be able to place me and if they have not placed me by the start of classes then I will definitely have one at the end of the first week of classes. What are the chances of me getting placed before school starts? Do people often cancel? Also, will I most definitely be placed at the end of the first week of classes if worst comes to worst?

I think it’s best for you to talk directly with someone in the housing office.

Yes, I did but they didn’t provide me with much more info than the email did. I thought ,perhaps, someone was familiar with this kind of situation.

Sorry I’m not sure what to do besides contacting them. I too am a transfer, so honestly this is makes me nervous. They have yet to contact me. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I do have a back up, but was planning on going to SB. Did you register before the deadline? I guess just contact them and ask around a little, until something hopefully opens up.

That’s unfortunate to hear. Yes I registered a month before the deadline but still didn’t receive one. I heard at orientation if you register before the deadline you pretty much got a dorm, regardless of being a transfer so it was disappointing to learn I didn’t. Perhaps you have received a dorm if you had not heard from them yet. You could always try calling and asking them directly too.

I would have a backup housing plan, just in case; even if that means just living at home. They can’t give you too much information because there’s a lot we don’t know; we have no idea how much space might open between now and the beginning of the year. Transfer space is always at a premium, unfortunately.

Chris

That news is even worse to learn! Living at home is not an option for me unfortunately but I will definitely have to think of something else now.

Anyone have any new updates on dorming? I am pretty much on the same boat as you guys and I am nervous. Living at home is also not an option for me and I really want to attend SBU this fall.

I was just notified with my housing assignments today. So hang in there guys. I was told that they don’t give them out until like the 2nd week of August so there’s still a chance. If you weren’t notified that you didn’t get housing by now I would assume(and hope) that means you are going to get it. I was considering Binghamton as a back up(since I ended up leaning towards Stony), but they too don’t give out assignments until mid August. Its one of those unfortunate downsides with being a transfer I suppose.

How did they notify you? An email or on your Solar account?

email. I don’t see anything about it on my solar account. It might be worth noting that it is labeled as spam.

Received my assignment as well! :)

Where were you assigned?

I was assigned to Keller College (Roosevelt Quad), from what I hear it’s not the greatest dorm but I can’t afford to be picky at this point

Glad to see they got you housing. I was assigned some building in Roth. Which according to some site is supposed to be good. Apparently the rooms are small though.

Roth rooms are smaller then the rooms that can be found in the corridor style type quads. Roth is a suite style quad so it has its benefits.

You share a bathroom with only the people in your suite. There are 4 to 6 people in a suite so it works out pretty well.

Roth Quad has ACs in every room. The other quads don’t.

You get a living room so you could keep stuff like a bike in there.

Wendys is a 1 minute walk away from any building in the quad.

It is the closest quad to most of the academic buildings and SAC.

Thanks for the info.

WENDY’S!
