Do you recommend it? Everyone I know has been telling me to dorm on-campus my freshman year to familiarize myself with my peers, classes, and the campus, but the off-campus dorms like Dobie and the Castilian look SO much better and bearable than the on-campus dorms. Even the supposedly newer and nicer dorms like San Jacinto and Duren look small and old compared to those off-campus dorms

Castilian and Dobie got a lot of renovations recently. I know Castilian is actually really old and it was painted white before I came to college. San Jac and Duren are pretty new, built just a few years ago. I personally suggest living on campus so you meet a lot of people. It’s really just an easy way to make friends. I knew every girl in my hallway as well of plenty of people in my dorm and that helped make a dorm into a home because I’d hang with them in the TV lounge, game room, go to dinner with them sometimes, or at least be able to say hi to them when going to my room. (I lived in Moore-Hill my first year and I surprisingly really loved it since its small but really social) It’s not so much about the age of the building (maybe the format, like if you want your own bathroom) but rather the community and friendships you get from it.
