Dormitories

I recently went on an over night stay in the Buts, and I had a great time.
Although I do have a slight problem. The bathrooms in the dorm don't seem to have any locks in them. Due to the lack of locks, I ended up having a miserable and embarrassing experience.
I didn't get to see the other dorms in campus, so I'm wondering. Is there any dorms ( aside the housings ) that have a more private bathrooms with locks?

No worries, Fauver has very private bathrooms, including a communal bathroom AND a private unisex bathroom on each floor. The bathrooms in Clark and the Nics aren’t bad either, though I have no idea about Westco. I live in Fauvs and its pretty chill, though to be honest, you’re not going to care about privacy after 3 weeks here! Take it from someone who was UBER worried about bathroom privacy and now just doesn’t care.

In most of the other dorms, there are mainly larger bathrooms with a bunch of different locking stalls. Fauver and maybe some of the others also have individual bathrooms that do lock.

what Weskid said. also, I’ve been the Butts bathrooms and never noticed that the doors didn’t lock. maybe it was just that one?

If you’re afraid of people walking in on you in the bathroom, you shouldn’t be living in Westco…

Another dorm question, thinking ahead (hoping I get in). The woodframe houses that seniors live in… are there enough for the whole class? Do some seniors live in regular dorms or have to find their own apartments in town? Thanks!

Firstly, all students are required to live on campus. So, no, students don’t go off to find their own apartments in town. You need a special exemption to live off-campus, and only about 30 students each year do so.

Most of the senior class lives in the woodframe houses. There aren’t enough for the whole class, and most of who’s left lives in the Fauver Apartments, which were just built in 2005 and have 5 bedroom suites, a full kitchen and common room. So even if you don’t wind up in the houses, you still get a nice, new apartment.

^^^

Yep. And in the very worst case for a senior, you end up in one of the low-rise apartments that juniors normally live in – but the only seniors I know who had that happen to them had chosen to live with some juniors, so they new they were risking not getting a house.

In general, many juniors as well as seniors don’t live in the dorms, since there are the junior low rise and high rise apartments (plus program housing).

Thanks for the info about other dorms. Fauver sounds better. I wasn’t really worried of co-ed bathrooms precisely. The thing that worried me was during my stay, I tried taking a shower and someone tried getting in…gave me quite a scare. So, I decided I think it would be best if I go to a dorm with a more private bathroom. Thanks for the extra info everyone :]

About the bathroom issue… I live in the Butts and every bathroom I’ve used has a lock. Some of them, like maybe the one you used, are more open for the hall but have rules for showering. For instance in my hall, if you’re taking a shower, you shut the door and put an occupied sign on it, so people have to use the other bathroom. Also, some parts of the butts have private bathrooms (toilet and shower in one room). So don’t worry, even if you had one bad experience. Although Fauver looks nice and new, I would say the doubles in the butts are bigger. But really, the personalities of the dorms are so different, I would use that to decide where you want to live.

I live in Butt C, and no, our bathrooms do not have locks. But we have established a pretty sensible policy which everyone respects and, I think, has successfully stopped all of these embarassing situations. We have these strings which keep the doors open at all times. If the door is closed, the bathroom is in use. If it isn’t, then you can go in.

And if it’s closed AND no one’s in there, you can always knock before going in.

Just stay away from the butts. They’re depressing to live in. Poorly lit, too quiet, and the rooms look like jail cells.

i disagree. 1) you’ll appreciate the quiet atmosphere sooner or later… trust me. not that i don’t mind noise, but you realize how uncool it is to be woken up at 4am by a bunch of drunk people when you have a test that morning. 2) yes, some of the singles are small, but the other singles are probably the biggest out of all the dorms. 3) depressing? not really. it’s what you make out of your situation. i know plenty of social and fun halls in the butts.

as for the bathrooms, the ones in the butts copenhagens have locks on them, others do not. but as people said above, there should be signs on the doors. pretty much all of the underclassmen dorm bathrooms with the exception of butts have multiple stalls & showers.

the rooms in the Butts are actually really nice. it gets a bad rap, but most people that live there like it. size-wise, the Butts doubles are more comfortable than Fauver or Clark, in my opinion.

As someone who’s very ‘in the know’ about campus life and freshman living, I think the butts have been getting much better since my freshman year at wes.

The frosh this year are enjoying it immensely.
