They do look a little bit dingy, but I'm sure the pictures on the websites are outdated and nonrepresentative of all the dorms. I hope prefrosh weekend will let me see what the dorms are really like....besides, its harvard!! i wouldn't mind living in a sewer if it meant going to harvard lol

Go to the website of the Freshman Dean's Office (http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k3927) and click on "Dorm History Search." It's a search engine that will show you who lived in each room of each hall each year (as long as the hall is still standing). Try John F. Kennedy or Henry David Thoreau. Or John Adams - he liked Massachusetts Hall room 19 so much he stayed there for 1751, 1752, 1753 AND 1754! So, I guess Harvard housing turned out all right for them. Here's something to keep in mind - Harvard's $26 billion endowment is larger than the GNPs of most of the nations on Earth . . . literally. So I can't imagine why the dorms - or any other facility on campus - would be dingy.

Why not just pay a visit or look at some pictures rather than look at irrelevancies? It doesn't matter how large Harvard's endownment is, if it's dorms are crap they're crap...

Freshman dorms seemed comparable to other schools. Bit less modern, but they have a nice traditional look. Really depends on the dorm, but the three or four I've seen were all pretty standard looking. In general, dorm rooms are pretty cramped, but that's true for most colleges; dorm rooms at Harvard seemed a little more roomy than dorm rooms at BU and BC.

I really liked the Currier suites a lot. Those were really nice. I haven't seen any dorms from other upperclassman houses, though.

Yeah, Currier is nice. The quad houses in general have very good rooms. Housing can be very hit-or-miss, but in general it's well above average. My single is bigger than doubles I've seen at some other schools (Wellesley and Skidmore). Off-campus housing opportunities, on the other hand, are limited.

My son's dorm (Grays) has ordinary (bed)rooms but huge common rooms in the suites with high ceilings. Makes for really nice hanging out areas and socializing.

Grays is the best. By far. huge common rooms, great distance from the square, and of course, the chillest people. I'll miss it next year. (But not /too/ much -- Cabot is amazing.)

We're still adding to it and updating it, but this should give you a general idea. Hope this helps.
