So I am interested in themed housing. I like the idea of a small cohesive unit. If you know about it could you tell me what groups they have, how to apply to them and what buildings they are in.

When my D was a Laf most of the themed housing I remember was not for freshmen other than the wellness dorm. But that was a few years ago. Why don’t you contact ResLife directly and ask? That way you will get your answer with 100% certainty.
The themed housing that stood out most to me during our visit last fall was the Dog House! Students living there take turns taking a puppy-in-pre-training (socialization) to classes, on walks, etc., for the day. The puppy lives in the house, as well. If all goes well, any given Dog House puppy will eventually graduate from Lafayette College and train as a service dog.
When my D was there there were a number of themed housing dorms and houses (ex. Arts House) and students could create their own themed housing area as well.
There is a great deal of information on the Lafayette website:

Again, contact ResLife and see what is available to freshman.
I do know that there is one particularly small freshman dorm (Conway) which may be an option. https://reslife.lafayette.edu/home/residence-hall-housing/first-year-residence-hall-video-gallery/ I do think most freshman find good friends in their dorm – certainly that was my D’s experience.
