Dorms at USC

I am a prospective USC student who will probably end up attending if i get the president's or trustee's scholarship. However, from what ive heard, the honors dorms are the worst on campus.. is this true, or just a rumor? also, are those who recieve the scholarship obligated to stay in only the two honors dorms (marks hall and trojan hall), or do they have the option to stay in another housing unit? thanks.

No you don’t have to stay at those dorms. I don’t think any preclude you from staying at any other dorms.

And since students being considered for Presidential and Trustee are admitted in January/Early February, they are able to apply for housing (with a $30 deposit) first and have the best chance of getting whatever dorm they most like. (You don’t have to commit to USC to apply for housing.)

You can live wherever you want.

You can live in any of the dorms you want, not just the honors dorms. Actually, a lot of the people in the honors dorms themselves aren’t scholarship kids. So no worries. And as mentioned previously, if you’re a Presidential/Trustee, you will find out earlier and can apply for housing earlier. Since USC housing is a first come, first serve basis, you’ll almost be guaranteed your top choice of housing.

Honors dorms is just another housing option. If you go to USC, fill out the housing deposit right away. To be honest, the most important thing is getting a nice roommate.
If you have the opportunity to visit USC, try to tour the dorms and get a sense of the community spirit. There are some common interest dorms.

I’m living in Parkside Arts and Humanities this year and it’s BEAUTIFUL. Clean and quiet suite style living. Each suite of 8 people has 2 bathrooms that are cleaned twice a week. It’s wonderful.

That does sound nice. Does that mean each suite has 4 bedrooms?

My daughter was in Parkside IRC her freshman year - it is a beautiful building. She was in 7-person suite - three double rooms and one single. There are 5-person, 6-person, 7, and 8s. The suites with odd numbers include a single room, the rest are doubles. She is in Webb this year, and REALLY misses the 2X weekly maid service!

Haha, alamemom, she shouldn’t be complaining about anything! I would easily switch from Troy to Webb if I could. The building is newer, more convenient, and they don’t have to pay electricity bills!

True, she was VERY pleased to get Webb. I’ll tell her alkaboy says “no complaining!”
