I heard that many universities close their dorms during long holidays(e.g. summer/winter vacations), does this happen in Cornell?

over the winter break the dorms close - I believe one stays open for students to move into who have no place to go - but it is a 5 week break...over summer the dorms are cleaned (some) and used for a variety of other events- reunion, summer school for high school students, Adult University (Alums taking a certain course and acting like college kids again), and summer high school sports camps...I was surprised tho that the dorms do not close over Spring break -

Thanks! And what about other holidays such as Christmas?

Oh, and, one more thing: do canteens open during the holidays?Or do we have to cook for ourselves?

i think x-mas is the winter break......

lol @ "canteens"

Just to make sure it's clear, the dorms are closed over winter break (i.e. xmas), but not the other holidays. However, meal plan dining does stop during every break, so if you want to stay, you need to find another way to eat.
