Dorms for freshman

^^I'm pretty sure the men's showers in Fayerweather were communal.

Post #20 - I could just be really immature and say "that's what she said" to so many things in that post... but I won't. I'll grow up :)

Anyway, I really do appreciate the whole voting thing you described - that's interesting...

My son lives in Fauver and his hall voted for separate bathrooms for men and women. He was happy about that outcome.

For what my opinion counts: I stayed in Fauver during my overnight and I loved it. I think I'm going to request it when the housing papers come :) Everyone was so much fun! Honestly I think it depends on taste though

I live in the butts and have a single, and it's very nice. There really aren't any bad places to live as a freshman. Clark and Fauver have nicer rooms and thermostats, but all of the rooms are doubles. They also have more communal "hang-out" areas, which I could definitely appreciate. However, the culture tends to be far more wild than in the butts, though given the random nature of housing selection for Freshman I don't know how consistent that is year-to-year. It's definitely possible, though harder, to find a community in the butterfield dorms but if peace and quiet are more your thing I would recommend them.

Also, I don't know anybody who is unhappy with their single, but many people who absolutely cannot stand their roommate.

I was thinking about requesting the all-girls floor in order to secure a room in the Nics (because I like the two-room double idea and that it might be quieter/tamer/cleaner than a mixed-gender hall... Lessons from my days of researching women's colleges). Is that a bad idea though? (Translation: Is the all-girls hall filled with conservatives or something that in some way is super different from the culture of the rest of Wesleyan -- I don't want to be in a bubble -- or are the people in it pretty normal? Sorry if that sounds mean. I guess it is.)

word on gender neutral bathrooms- after a couple months, and surely by the end of the year, you really stop giving a crap. people think it's going to turn into a big deal blah blah blah. but seriously, after getting a *****load of work from your classes, the last thing you're worried about is a girl/guy taking a shower next to you.
flying pig- i know a friend who was in the all women floor and ze says it was ok, but more leaning towards the lame side (hir opinion, not mine). just the nature of the hall limited hir social experience & variety of friends.

Thanks NowYouKnow. Could you elaborate on that a bit? (How was it lame / how was her social experience limited?)

flying pig- i think ze said something about just the lack of testosterone making the environment very homogeneous... it's not that all those girls were looking for guys, but just that the void was filled w/ more of the same girl atmosphere. if you're really curious, i advise you ask on the fbook group.

Apparently 1/3 of the class of 2015 will be forced to live in double rooms with 3 people in them. Has anyone had that experience and how did it go? I’m especially interested in Fauver Dorm.
