Dorms

This is a question to a current student:
Which one is the best freshman dorm at Wes? I know it depends on what you want (quiet, substance-free etc.) but if we don't think about those, which one is the most comfortable?

Ok so this is not a question you can really answer simply because each dorm is perfect for different people. If you like to smoke by any means, look into Westco, it is very homey and the environment is so awesome if you enjoy any part of smoking culture, you also can enjoy it if you dont, because the community is really tight-knit. Another similar dorm to Westco in terms of community is 200 church. Everyone I know in 200 church treats everyone else like family and its definitely a really nice comfortable place to live. Butts have the reputation of being awful but I know a ton of people who really like it there, sure it seems like the farthest freshman dorm from central campus and that may be true but it takes almost the same time on average in terms of getting around on campus. Its like maybe an extra 1 minute walk to Usdan, which you go to a lot as a student, from the foss hill dorms. Fauver is brand new and is really nice as well as my current home, although I find it quite sterile and thus it doesnt feel quite as homey as everywhere else, but it has so many great amenities that it almost makes no difference (I still love it). The nics are similar to westco in terms of structure (they have 2 room doubles as well as balconies) and I know everyone there likes it a lot and people are close. It is definitely a very comfortable dorm. Clark is really nice as well as it has AC (as does Fauver) but if you live on the 4th floor of Clark it can be kind of annoying (the 4th floor is kind of like the 5th floor since there is a ground floor type ordeal they have going on) the elevator is highly used and can be pretty annoyign to wait for. But clark is still very nice and its location is great. Location wise, fauver nics westco and clark are all very close to being in the middle of campus or at least relatively close to everything. It really makes no difference. Basically , don’t worry about housing because everywhere is great. However, if you are interested in the idea of WestCo I DEFINITELY consider looking into it; I really wish I did because thats where I want to live, but im also happy with fauver.

in terms of comfort though, all the dorms are somewhat similar besides fauver and clark, they all are homey and you will love your dorm and your hall no matter what.

The post above was really informative (thank you), but do freshman have any control of which dorm they end up in? That is, in the absence of applying for something special like substance-free housing, can an incoming freshman request one dorm over another or are they just randomly assigned?

I don’t remember exactly how the reslife form is set up, but you can choose between frosh-only (Clark and Fauver) or mixed (Butts and Nics). You can also choose to apply to what they call “community based living” which includes, Westco, 200 Church, and I believe the single-gender or substance-free halls and writing hall. If you want Westco you have to rank as “highly necessary” or whatever they call it to get in.
