Does anybody know about the dorms at UCSC for transfers? And does anybody know which are the best ones? Please offer a description if you can...thanks.

bump...bump

I can tell you that one place transfers are sent is to the unamed, semi-permanent, mobile homes that hold 9 students, each having a single room. There is a tiny cooking area and three bathrooms. They can be either single sex or coed. These students come from different colleges, and they call themselves the "Village People." The only downside is that you're never really integrated into the college community, which is supposed to be one of the best aspects of UCSC.

Actually, almost every college has apartments for transfers now. Also, the singles in the dorms are generally given to transfers, with some places even having designated transfer floors. Kresge is all apartments and a majority of them are reserved for transfer and continuing students. Kresge actually has an entire building, Kresge East, which is reserved for transfers, and houses students in apartments with four single bedrooms. Also, porter shares some apartments with kresge that house a lot of transfer/continuing students. And if you wanted to live in a residence hall, I have freinds scattered all throughout the school.

The point is, there are options all over campus. It all depends on where you want to be. The village is just one option, and comparatively, very few transfers are actually sent there. Some kids actually prefer the village, but i would not recommend it. Just fill out your SIR and housing application on time and you will probably get what you want.

let me know if you need more info about each college

ucscweb.com has descriptions of all colleges.

FifiDog is correct about the Village. My son stayed there for three years. The only good things about the Village are that it is on campus and quieter than other residential areas on campus.

Kidicarus is correct about the othe options. I have a daughter at Porter now who just finished her sophomore year and will start summer school there next week.
